Migrations and Field Notes
My intention was to sit outside for a few hours every day for a week, in various locations, and make a total of 77 small drawings. I started making drawings on the first day. I drew quirky things in my surroundings wherever I was. I left the drawings near where I made them – to be noticed or overlooked.
What I hadn’t anticipated was just how much my work week would crowd in upon my plans. When I surrendered to the way the project was unfolding, instead of how I hoped it would be, I realized that the result is a much more honest reflection of my current life in L.A.: 7 days of driving, 6 different freeways, 2 different counties, 308 miles... 18 small drawings and only 2 days with moments outdoors for drawing.
The small drawings are shown here with hints about where I left them (two spots: Angels Gate in San Pedro, CA and the Alamitos Beach area of Long Beach, CA). If you find one, feel free to take it.
